Your New Job: News Distributor

Where will we get the news of tomorrow? Probably from each other, according to Jeff Jarvis.

Long gone are the halcyon days of the neighborhood paperboy tossing ink-on-paper into our front yards. As Jeff Jarvis explains, news distribution is becoming a community endeavor:

Great vidoe.

As for “local news” If only we could easily link to the credentials and testimonials (say like linkedin’s testomonials) of the citizen journalists who are reporting the “news”.

Good luck getting any established media companies to listen to someone like Jarvis though. They are two distinctly different animals: One is all about maintaining market share and cutting costs, the other is about growth and innovation. There’s a lot of synergy to be found between the two, but don’t look for newspapers to find it.

i get more news through twitter than anywhere else these days. i’d rather have friends (and enemies) telling me what to read than some “editor” sitting in an office somewhere arbitrarily picking what he thinks will sell more car ads.

    Thanks BART

Nothing like paying more and getting less:

Starting at 7pm tonight, the Bay Area Rapid Transit District will cut its service by 25% during non-peak periods (ie, most of the time). This compares unfavorably to AC Transit’s 15% service cut, and was not accompanied by a public input process like the one AC Transit has undertaken in recent weeks. (Full story)
